JSK entered into a Memorandum
of Understanding with India Posts (Rajasthan
Circle) on 22nd September 2008.
This was to initiate a partnership, aimed of
promoting the Prerna strategy in some selected
underdeveloped districts of Rajasthan.
Karauli district was identified as a pilot
initiative. T
Karauli is one of the most
deprived districts in Rajasthan. About 87
percent of rural households have low standard
of living.
The percentage of girls marrying before
completing 18 years in rural areas is 56
percent.
The state average marrying before 18 years is
47 percent in rural areas. (DLHS-3).
Selected socio-economic
indicators show the developmental status of
Karauli district with respect to Rajasthan and
India:
In pursuance of the MOU, the
department of Posts (Chief PMG, Rajasthan)
organized a training work shop for a group of
postal field delivery staff to devote some
time to locating couples who qualify for the
Prerna Award from identified villages. JSK
conducted the workshop for 34 field delivery
staff and their supervisors on 11th
January 2009 at Main Dak Ghar (MDG), Karauli.
During the workshop, all
relevant information on the health indices of
Karauli and the ingredients of Prerna were
discussed by JSK representatives with the
group. JSK’s team members were from public
health, demography and finance.
