Orissa has shown
the way for building state involvement in
JSK’s population stabilisation activities.
Ms Shailaja Chandra, the Executive Director
of JSK, met Shri Prafulla Samal, Minister
of Panchayati Raj, Government of Orissa,
in June 2009 and briefed him on JSK’s Prerna
strategy. The minister instructed the Secretary
Panchayati Raj, Govt of Orissa to initiate
efforts at the grass root level to locate
suitable couples for the award under the
Prerna strategy.
Ms Shailaja Chandra also addressed a special
gathering of senior academicians and public
health experts at SUM Hospital Institute
of Medical Sciences auditorium in the city,
briefing the audience on the importance
of responsible parenthood in the context
of population stabilisation. The Principal
and Dean of the Medical Institute Prof D.
K. Ray, publicly declared at the same meeting
that his institute would start work on Prerna
and IUCD 380A popularization programmes
shortly.
Later, at a meeting chaired by the Additional
Secretary Health and Family Welfare, GOO
and moderated by Director, Family Welfare,
the JSK ED met proprietors of 50 private
hospitals / nursing homes who gathered at
SIHFW conference hall at Nayapalli, Bhubaneshwar
to persuade them to join JSK’s Santushti
initiative. At the end of the session, a
number of private nursing home owners expressed
their willingness to adopt the Santushti
strategy.
The process has already started in Orissa
with Sanjivini Nursing Home in Dhenkanal
holding the first camp mode sterilisation
operations on 31st July 2009.
