Couples
awarded in Nabarangpur Distirct, Orissa
At a unique
function 34 couples who had shown a strong
sense of parental responsibility in one of
the most backward and remote districts in
the country were awarded on 2nd November,
2008 at Nabarangpur District in Orissa.
Nabarangpur in Orissa ranks 503 and out of
593 districts surveyed by the Institute of
Population Studies, Mumbai and its Social
and Health indicators are extremely low.
The identified
couples became shining examples of couples
that have shunned the age old practice of
vary early marriage and have adopted
apacing between children and got
sterilized after two children. All couples
were from below the poverty line.
